Love, love this city, feel very safe and it’s beautiful. The included tour was about 3 hours and was a combination of a walking and motorcoach tour. You really get to see the city. After the tour you have plenty of free time, which I took advantage of or you can choose an optional tour of Szentendre or a Jewish Heritage Tour. I took to opportunity to finish walking up Castle Hill to take in the views from the Fisherman’s Bastion, the view is breathtaking. There is a tram available to take you to the top if you don’t feel like walking, the cost is a couple of Euro for a round-trip ride.
After, I went to the “Square”, as the locals call it, and had stuffed cabbage in a nice local restaurant, the weather was beautiful so I was able to enjoy my lunch outside. In this area are many shops and restaurants all on pedestrian only walk areas.
Dinner on the ship was our Gala dinner, still fairly casual, a 6 course dinner with local favorites.
I would definitely recommend at least a 1 night pre-night in Budapest, so much to see and do. I am amazed at how well the Avalon Tranquility has been taken care of, this ship has been sailing for 6 years and she doesn’t show her age at all. She has beautiful wood finishes everywhere.
Great day, next stop Bratislava.
